A Hike Through Yosemite

A Hike Through Yosemite (2022),  is a video piece utilizing Google Earth’s pedestrian view, featuring first-person perspective, and is reminiscent of historic images of Yosemite. The images made of Yosemite largely developed the photographic landscape convention that established the American conceptualization of the West. I am interested in how these conventions are perpetuated in the digital world and the impacts they have on real-life experiences. Throughout the video, the landscape is unsettling as it glitches and responds to each “step” taken, enacting the sublime and calling into question the stability of the image.
