BRIAR M. PINE
Advanced Photography
Course DescriptionAdvanced Photography is a capstone course that investigates photographic practice and philosophy through critique, readings, discussion, and external activities. Students engage in personal studio practice and class critiques. The course will include a class exhibition in the McMillan Gallery where students are encouraged to consider display and installation. The prerequisite for this course is ARTO 250 and ARTO 350.
Students in this class are expected to be proactive and motivated in developing their own artistic practice. Students will be asked to pursue ideas, readings, and work that inspires them. Students will explore their artistic interests through projects drawn from their artistic, intellectual, and emotional lives. They will be encouraged to identify their areas of interests within their work. This class relies on student collaboration and participation in the classroom community. We will have many critiques and discussions and a significant part of our course activities will be determined by you. For example, students will work together to lead a workshop, presentation, or a reading on a topic that informs your practice.
