BRIAR M. PINE
Interdisciplinary Foundations
Course DescriptionArt 116 is part of the Core Studio triad (Art 115, Art 116 and Art 233) designed to deliver introductions to the possibilities of art and design as well as fundamental concepts and concerns. This studio intensive course is structured to allow for a rigorous introduction to interdisciplinary art and design in a studio setting. In this class you will complete projects that move through 2-D, 3-D, and 4-D structures and processes in order to address synthesis, hybridity and inter-dimensional processes. Students will also be introduced to methodologies embedded in critical thinking.
Art 116 engages in an exploration of art and design issues through a series of studio projects, readings, media, individual research, and online discussions. Primary issues include development of art and design language and vocabulary, formal organizing principles, conceptual development, considerations of craft, critical thinking, and recording and documentation.
